Block Party by Spice Mixers x Bestand x Fryz

We invite you to dance with us one more time under the open sky on what could be one of the last warm days of the year - this sunday, 27th September, on Urban Loritz Platz, in front of the Fryz food stand!

We have Miyra Lim, Montaha, Mztay and মm. on the decks for this open air, free for all block party. Bestand and Spice Mixers have come together with support from Fryz, one of our favourite eateries in the city, to set some speakers out in the open for everyone to dance and eat to.

We often talk about how sterile, policed, racist and hostile Vienna is as a city. Well then, perhaps, it is up to us to bring life to the city and reclaim public spaces with communal collaboration.

We want to be clear that this is not a brand sponsorship. This is a collaboration built from friendship. We are friends who come together here often to eat, hang out, celebrate our little and big victories. Here we have built warm friendships and acquaintances with the staff of fryz. Here, some of us even get the chance to speak with them in our mother tongues, and some of us are able to overcome ethnic and language differences to build friendships. Here, we are able to venture out of the club, academia and gallery walls to bring our practice out in public spaces.

This collaboration, more than anything, is an exercise at figuring out how we can actually built material change to public spaces in a city by building relationships and moving resources together.
State and city grants can fund culture, but it is in our real, material relationships that, perhaps, we can find potential to claim culture as ours.

We are grateful to everyone who is working voluntarily to organize this event, and to MJ for providing us with equipment.

And don’t worry if you’re vegan/vegetarian! Fryz has some really yum options on the menu for you! (Our favourite are the corn ribs.)
