Collective Cooking Workshop & Meshwar Mixtapes Listening Session (pt. 2)

Salma
also known by her stage name Umm Bahar, is a Vienna-based multimedia artist and researcher who grew up in Palestine, Cyprus, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. Her work connects ancestral memory with ecology and explores themes of transformation and decay through food-related processes such as fermentation and cooking. As Umm Bahar, "mother of spices/the ocean." she uses participatory rituals and tarot to tell stories about climate justice, indigenous imagination, and ecological resistance.
Sedra
is a Vienna-based social worker, anti-racism facilitator, translator, and researcher. Grounded in decolonial and intersectional frame-works, her practice bridges scholarship and activism: translating critical theory into trauma-informed, community-based practice while bringing knowledge from the streets, community organising, and lived experience into academic and institutional spaces and back into collective action. Her approach resists the separation of care and politics.
Deema Amr is bringing the Meshwar Mixtapes project to Vienna. Focusing on collective listening, the project takes audiences on a journey that brings the cultures of the Global South to life through music, storytelling and translations, giving a voice to marginalised communities. In this edition, we will hear stories that shape the Kurdish experience of growing up in Syria, as compiled by Sedra Arab, incorporating narratives, music and visuals.
This programme marks the start of the second phase of Meshwar Mixtapes, following the communal cooking and dining event. You are invited to participate in both phases, though it is also possible to attend just one of the events.
Registration for the evening event is not required. Participation is free, but donations are welcome as always.
